He's a very good finisher, but yes I understand that within the context people make it sound like if he buzzes Floyd once the fight will be finished right there.

Based on his history that's not true. More like if he were to buzz Floyd, the fight would be dragged on a few or even several more rounds before he finished him.

Pac refused to fight that same 39-year old man because he was "too good".

because jmm kept getting up lol...if he only stayed down for the count then the fight would have been over in the very first round. that fight was a testament of how durable jmm is more than pac's ability to finish the job.

fair point brick. but if any fighter knocks his opponent down 3x in a round its fair to question why he couldn't finish the deal.

yeah you could question his ability and no one is stopping you from doing so but like what i was trying to imply you should also look at the other side of the coin so you can formulate the best analogy.

he's not a great finisher. he often has opponents hurt for a couple of rounds before he is able to actually finish them but i think part of the "myth" comes from the viewing audience knowing that the win is inevitable. that once he has someone hurt all he has to do is close the show.

people like to use ricky hatton but it's obvious those people aren't so much fans of boxing as fans of manny pacquiao. part of hatton's defense was absorbing a couple of shots to get on the inside which no longer works when that chin is gone. a knockout loss (mayweather), a couple hometown scares (lazcano) and then a safe fight to set up a big money fight (malinaggi) helped pacquiao catch that chin, just after hatton's right hand uncovered it, with the perfect shot.

the rest of pacquiao's are off workrate and accumulation. no shame in that.
