By Jake Donovan - From the first time they were showcased on the same card (albeit in separate bouts) last October, undefeated featherweight titlists Juan Manuel Lopez and Yuriorkis Gamboa appeared to be on a collision course to one day face each in a bout that ultimately determine divisional supremacy.

The demand was even greater following their HBO-televised doubleheader earlier this year, with both prevailing by knockout in separate bouts against Top 10 featherweight opposition.

Undefeated lightweight contender Anthony Peterson has basically been on hold for much of 2010, waiting for a long overdue mandatory shot against Humberto Soto.

The fact that he’s no longer ranked by the sanctioning body that claims Soto as its champ tells you all you need to know about the chances of that fight happening… probably about as much of a chance as Lopez and Gamboa fighting any time soon.

Instead of the fights we want or the fights they are owed, we are once again offered the fights that the promoters would rather give us.

In a vacuum, there’s hardly anything at all wrong with this weekend’s offering on HBO, which airs live from The Palms Casino in Las Vegas (Saturday, 10PM ET/PT).

Gamboa (18-0, 15KO) returns to the ring for the third time this year, taking on Orlando Salido (34-10-2, 22KO) in an alphabet featherweight unification match.

Meanwhile, Peterson (30-0, 20KO) takes on the dangerous Brandon Rios (24-0-1, 18KO) in a matchup of unbeaten lightweight contenders. [Click Here To Read More]

Great Article, about time somebody said something about the Anthony Peterson situation. Arum owns the lightweight division so Peterson's best bet is to make a serioius impression this weekend. Pavlik had a very similar record except more KO's before he first appreared on HBO. Anthony Peterson should change his name to Anthony Marquez lol

Since rojas doesn't have anything set in concrete and he has a belt all signs would point at rojas as the next opponent.
As far as soto, him vs Ant wouldn't be Happening soon. Money fights loom for him with either of the "big 3" from Mexico, more than likely morales.

Is a damn shame that Soto ducked Peterson and blatantly ducked him is ridiculous.

However, Peterson does have his hands full with Brandon Rios. This will be a very good fight between borderline prospects/contenders. Matter of fact this fight will be better than the main event.

The problem isn't the fighters but all the leahes behind the scenes, if hbo has $750,000 for gamboa's oppontent and all he gets is $150,000 fights are not being made and the Nev comm isn't doing there job.

Ramos vs Gamboa or Ramos vs Juanma

I am just waiting for Gamboa and/or juanma to give my personal friend Rico Suavecito Ramos a World Title shot so he can rip the belt from both of them.

Where you at Gamboa? I am tired of watching you box hand-fed chumps on HBO.

When are you going to fight someon who has better hands than you? Best stop creeping that head up cause Rico will catch you!

We're coming for you Gamboa and Juanma and the rest!

17-0! Straight from Los Angeles, WE ARE COMING FOR YOU GAMBOA!

                  Wilfrado Vasquez Jr

WV Jr didnt want any either.

He was offered a big money to fight Rico in Oct but he declined. That is the definition of a "duck" for you Maywetaher fans. In case ya didn't know.

Tell him to challenge Poonsawat. That little beast is no joke. 5 foot 3 of just pure destruction.
