According to the word going around in Mexico, undefeated bantamweight Abner Mares is going to reunite with ex-trainer Nacho Beristain to prepare for his fall bout with IBO champion Vic Darchinyan. Mares and Beristain had a nasty split in May of last year. The trainer broke ties with Mares after the young fighter signed a contract with manager Frank Espinoza.

Sounds like a good idea because Mares's performance in the Perez fight wasn't that good to say the least. I expected a lot more from Mares in that fight.

The style Beristain implements onto his fighters seems to suit Abner better. That brawling style he's been utilizing since leaving Ignacio doesn't work in his favor that well at all. When Ignacio said he didn't think Abner was strong enough to beat Perez I thought it was sour g****s due to Abner leaving him for Espinoza, but he might have been right because Abner couldn't out muscle Perez at all. Perez was strong as hell and stood right there with Mares. But that was some ****ed up **** to say about Abner RIGHT before he had to fight lol.

But an approach to fighting with more finesse might be the best for Mares because he's not really a one punch KO guy, he's a guy that can hit you at will to score points or the stoppage.
