Who is the best bodypuncher in boxing right now?

It's kind of hard to say because nobody is really knocking people out with body punches. But I would go with Celestino Caballero. I've made it a priority to watch some of his fights recently and the guy is a beast. If you watch he usually goes to the body more than the head in the early rounds and it's really effective. Like they say "kill the body and the head will die". You could say he doesnt hit particuarly hard but he knocked down Daniel Ponce De Leon with a body punch.

Overall I just think he goes to the body better than anyone else I can think of right now. You can hear the pounding noise when he it and he doesnt just throw ones and two's, he throws and keeps throwing.

I'm sure somebody will be able to come up with somebody else....

But there's definetly not as many as there used to be. People tend to go head hunting now. But I like fighters who go to the body and I think more people should do it. I watched Caballero-Leal about an hour ago and it made me think if Floyd Mayweather went to the body, he would proberbly knock out more opponents.

It took me right back to the Shane Mosley fight, Shane was basically resigned to losing after about round 6. If Floyd had hit him with some powerful body shots for the next 6 rounds then I really think he would have stopped him. But that's just not his style, he does it against southpaws because it's easier with the left hand but he doesnt do it enough. I think.

Anyway. Who is the best body puncher right now in your opinion?

        Humberto Soto.

Soto is the most brutal bodypuncher in boxing right now. That's why No One wants to fight him.
Everyone has seen how Soto left Bobby Pacquiao paralyzed for more than 5 minutes on the canvas.
Since then, Soto has fought C & D level fightersb cause all the bigger names have ducked him.

        Anthony Peterson ducked Soto.
Pacman ducked Soto for more tahn 3 years.

Jorge Linares, Robert Guerrero, Barrera, Marquez, Morales, Miguel Acosta, Marcos Maidana, Tim Bradley, have all DUCKED Soto.

I think for power you go with Cotto and Arce but I just feel Caballero goes to the body really well. He does it in combinations, it's crazy. And the consisntency of him is very good also, he also breaks down his opponents with his body work. Just imagine if he had the power of an Arce or Cotto. Everyone would be raving about him but I don't think KO power has to be the defining factor. It's got to be connected to technique aswell.

Pernell Whitaker was a great body puncher even though he didnt knock people around with his punches. Cotto and Arce have some sick body shot knockouts though. Cotto against Foreman, Gomez and Quintana were crazy. I havent seen that much of Jorge Arce, but the knockout against Rosendo Alvarez was vicious.

I remember Arce-Rojas, Rojas was outboxing him pretty badly for 5 rounds and then in the 6th Arce landed a vicious left to the liver that basically ended the fight then and there. That punch was so loud it almost hurt me, lol.

lol. I think that's another thing, when you hear the punch you know it was very good. I might get Arce's career set on DVD soon and then i'll get back to you on his body punching. So far iv'e only seen his bouts with Alvarez, Hussein I and II and Mijares. I should proberbly watch more.

Mijares made me a fan when he beat Arce. When you watch the way both of them fight you would have expected Jorge to run through him. Mijares was a good defensively with a very good jab but Arce was a monster who throws 100 punches per round and never stops coming at you. You'd think that Arce would have got to him. But Cristian tied him in knots and landed about 300 more punches. That was an amazing performence.
