Why i don't think Maidana KOs Khan

I wasn't sure who'd win at first, but now i'm confident Khan will beat him.

    1) He spars with Pacquiao, and they will both be in training camp together. This is the main reason. Pac hits way harder than Maidana, and is quicker by a mile. If Khan can even hold his own against him, maidana will be a cakewalk as he'll see his wide looping punches coming in slow-mo. While it might be hard for Roach to find a sparring partner to teach pac to fight floyd, it's easy to get someone to train for Maidana, who doesn't have anything apart from a big punch

    2) I'm sure he's been taught how to hold on and go into survival mode, something he didn't earlier on in his career. If he does get clocked, i don't think he'd be out cold (against Prescott he got up once remember, but just stood there and got decked again).

    3) The Prescott fight was also at 135. Khan is as tall as DLH and has a similar frame, making 135 must have left him very dehydrated and weak and his chin would have suffered. (Think about Cottos chin at 140)

    4) Also the fact that he's being put in there Maidana means Roach and his managers are confident in his skills, or maybe realise Maidana doesn't punch as hard as we think (Corley)

You can't train a chin. End of story.

You're right to a certain extent, but you can add weight to the legs... not get hit in the first place etc

I'm just saying if team khan wasn't confident, this fight wouldnt be happening

Goody Petronelli, the only trainer Marvelous Marvin Hagler ever knew, always used to say, “You can’t train a chin.’’ That is what Freddie Roach has to be concerned about.

Roach told an old friend a while back that “Goody was right,’’ when asked about Petronelli’s philosophy. No amount of weight work to strengthen neck muscles, for example, will alter how quick a fighter’s brain goes blank when hit on the chin. That ability to absorb shock is a gift from a Higher Power not something you can improve, like a jab or a hook.

The chin issue will allways be there.

As long as he doesnt slug it out he should be fine though.

You're absolutely right. Just ask Wlad Klitschko about that. All you can do is improve your defense, and not get hit there. Thomas Hearns supposedly had a bad chin as well. Kahn can still be great, he just better not get into any brawls, and use his technical ability to the best of his capacity. If he's forced to fight against Maidana, he's screwed.

I agree, but you're not saying anything revolutionary here. Maidana has a puncher's chance at best and the countless casual fans ranting on about Khan getting knocked out see things in very simple terms - bad chin + big puncher = knockout loss for Khan.

It just doesn't work like that. Khan can't improve his chin, but his defence is vastly improved and he boxes to a gameplan very well. Roach will have him box tall, batter Maidana with ******* jabs, land the occasional straight right and tie things up if Maidana gets any momentum on the inside. Maidana has decent skills (probably underrated), but his punches are too wide and his style is too predictable. If Khan boxes smart, he wins.
