Erik Morales will look to shine against Raheem.

"Facing a fighter that is quick and has a big amateur experience will be a big challenge because it will give me the opportunity to shine other aspects of my game," said Erik Morales at the press conference this Wednesday in Los Angeles, California next to his opponent, American, Zahir Raheem.

Morales and Raheem met with each other prio to the battle they will star in September 10 at the Staples Center. The fight is schedule for 12 rounds and will be the main event of the Top Rank promotion that night.

"Few times in my career have i fought opponents with the technical quality of Raheem because of that I want to ensure the fans that they will witness a very intersting fight," added the triple ex champ of the world.

Morales has planned to seclude himself in the Mexican mountains this weekend, more specifically the Otomi Ceremonial Center, and the Wednesday before the figth with Raheem he will arrive in the City of Angels directly from Toluca.

The pride of Tijuana also revealed that should he come out as the victor this september, he plans to fight again in December.

"I want to do 3 fights in 2006 and i expect one of those to be for the lightweight championship of the world," he added.

For his part, Raheem comented, "Few times does life present you opportunities and this is one of them. It would be a great thing to beat Erik Morales, and thats my intent because opportunities can not be let to waste."

I think that Raheem is a little better then most critics are giving him credit for, and that he is a descent little tune up for Morales who has been stringing together tough fights for a while now. I am also happy that Raheem is getting a shot after he seemed to come up short on the expectations heeped on him after he went pro.

I agree with you this will be a tune up fight for the rematch coming up in december, although i have not seen Raheem fight I heard a bit about him, but going up against an experienced Morales who is at the top of his game might not be the best thing, we all know what happens when Morales step in the ring with anyone.

Erik Morales will win this fight with ease, i never seen Raheem but nobody gives him credit so he must likely hasnt done anything to convince anyone that will make people think, Raheem will win

Raheem will actually be a pretty good test for Morales. He was making Rocky Juarez look like a retired police officer when the ref wasn't whoring him.

I think Morales will beat Raheem but Zahir has something to bring to the table that Morales hasn't been up against in awhile.

3 fights in 2006? Damn Erik is dat dude. I hope he fights Leavander Johnson so he can win the IBF strap...then I hope he gets a shot at the real champ.

Morales is special...so many people overlook how good this mother****er really is for boxing.

I'd say you might be right but look at the types of fighters that Morales has had trouble with...

Aggressive boxers who brought the fight to him for 12 rounds. Barrera, Chi, Espadas I, Chavez...

Rahim has boxing skills, but so doesn't Morales. I don't think Rahim has power to bother him and he doesn't have the handspeed to discourage him. Raheem looked somewhat disinterested in that Juarez fight. I think Erik will take an 8-4, 8-4, 7-5 comfortable decision...or something like that.
