Q: how old is roy jones?

    A: 36

another Q: how old were the following fighters, whose main assets were speed and reflexes (and chin, and in one case power as well), when they last won a title fight?

    Sugar Ray Robinson 35
    Sugar Ray Leonard 33
Sweet Pea 33 (or 32 dunno)

note that none of them suffered 2 ko losses in a row, actually they were never stopped until later in their careers

    DO THE MATH

that being said anything can happen in boxing

ps: as you can all guess by the fighters I am comparing to roy jones I am definitely not a hater

i really challenge anyone to lose 20lbs. of pure muscle at age 35 and tell me they are the same fighter. even after you recover you are never the same. your body just canabalized itself and it has long term effects...

      hmm

I will say this...if anyone can recover from that muscle loss, it is Roy Jones. If anyone can bounce back from to stoppage losses, it is Roy. I pray for hsi health though...man I just hope he doesn't get hurt (if this fight is for real).

Tarver is 36 I believe, but a MUCH different 36 than Roy. After all, Tarver doesn't rely on refelxes like Roy did, nor did Tarver ever lose any amount of muscle mass. Also there is the fact that Tarver has had half the fights Roy has had.

i dunno...i really like roy, but his last three outings it seemed he's lost his 'pop' on his punches. they don't explode or snap like they used to...he used to keep people at bay and make them fight at HIS tempo because he did have such a jolting shot...now it seems people will walk over anything he's got. i really do hope he finds some kind of vindication.

                right on the spot

it is incredible how his punches mattered against a hw like ruiz, and johnson (a former 160er, stopped at 160) walked through them like nothing

it is said that the last thing to elave a fighter is his punch, but in roy jones case the pop in his punches was probably due to his speed

the reason i sympathize with roy so much is that i went though the same way when i used to compete. i used to fight at around 119 when i was 18-19 years old...as the years gone by i proceeded to jump weightclass and i grew heavier and topped at 140...i then tried to relive my glory days and dehydrated myself and ate primarily vegetables so that i would lose mucsle mass quick (basically let my body canabalize itself). i came back at 125 (15lbs. lighter in 2 months) i walked in the ring and my body could not respond what i thought i wanted to do. it was if i severed some sort of connection and when i did land something it seemd to push rather than punch. i was never the same after that...i was able to regain a lot of my abilities back but to this day i'm not at 100% at 28 years old. that was more than 3 years ago.

Johnson didn't walk through Jones punches. Jones didn't throw punches in any of the rounds except four, and he backed Johnson up nicely. He hit him with three quick shots from his left hand, two hooks and an uppercut (I think). Tarver takes a good shot, though.
