Despite being one of, if not, the most talented fighters ever and probably more entertaining than Oscar, Roy never could compete with De la Hoya's popularity and overall sales. Why?

After Shane Mosley beat De La Hoya in a better action fight than De La Hoya-Mayweather, he was playing to a sparse crowds where he couldn't fill up the MSG Arena against his #1 contender (RIP Vernon Forrest). Why?

Mayweather was fighting in front of a sold out MGM Grand (of course Hatton had something to do with it) and selling what Shane sold against Oscar in the second fight, not even the first.

Unless you're The Heavyweight Champion, Mexican, Mexican-American, Puerto Rican, or Filipino, that humble, no charisma **** is not gonna cut it, if you want to be among the most popular athletes (in boxing) you have to be a character.

Mayweather tried the humble act for a while (and you could tell earlier in his career that it hard for him) and it didn't work, now he's being an exaggerated version of himself and it works and continues to.
floyd can play the villain in the ring and during the promotion, but like an immature 5 year old he confuses his in ring and promotional persona, with his real life personality.

personally, I don't even think it's a act. that is just how floyd is... a scummy, low-life and ignorant douche bag.

      You must be joking.

I can tell you right now, and im REALLY not being biased when i say this, hope you believe me, that Mayweather's career set, is no where near as exciting as DLH's, and ive seen most if not all DLH's fights, these are the Mayweather fights ive seen..

      Mosley
      Baldy
      Castillo 1+2
      Marquez
      Hatton
      DLH
      Judah
      Mitchell
      Bruseles
      Gatti
      Corley
      N'dou
      Chavez
      Sosa
      Hernadez
      Corrales
      Burton
      Gerena
      Juuko
      Manfredy
All preference DK. I find Mayweather more entertaining to watch, especially at the lower weights.

You can be entertaining, fun, the "villian", and trash talk without being a genuine **** in reality. The way he is may have gotten him to where he is, but it's also what is holding him back from true superstardom.
are u kidding me dude? he already is a huge superstar!!! he's already reached Oscars stardom and probably surpassed it... he appeals to the mainstream and thats why everything he does is under a microscope.... more people know who floyd Mayweather is than Albert Pujols, Packy, Roger Federer, Sidney Crosby, & Usain Bolt... just saying..

          Good Thread TS!

Floys almost 0 wittiness to be an 'entertaining, fun, villain', that'd be too much to ask of him. His fans like to deny it, but it's not an act, it's actually an exaggerated version of himself. That's why even in his personal pictures and videos all he has to offer is diamond encrusted **** and his big boy toys.
Yea Floyd doesn't have that in his bag but he certainly knows how to bug the fuck out of people.

I still don't get how he has made it work other than the fact he has jsut been around a long time doing his thing and has managed to get on a lot of peoples last nerve and the fact that no one can shut him up or make him conform just bugs them even more.

I think it is kind of an act because I don't think he wants to be hated but that is the price of doing business for him and he certainly is not a real villian.

At the lower weights yeah, but Oscar's whole career exciting to watch imo, infact if i had to recommended a career set, it would be his.

I would say Oscar's fights were more entertaining than Roy's to.
I find Oscar more entertaining too, but from what I've seen on the boards many would disagree. That's why I added 'probably', instead of just 'he's more exciting'.

Oscar didn't like to lead much at all though, especially when he was against the higher level of opp.
