  • confused about mainstream love for hopkins

So......what has Bernard Hopkins done to deserve his sterling reputation? Online polls suggest that the rematch will be won easily by Hopkins. What has Hopkins done to deserve the outpouring of devotion? It's not that I dismiss him outright or think he is untalented, I just don't understand the rabid love shown to him. Where's the resume'?

Look at fighters who don't shy away from challenges, who built their career by fighting the best over and over, and proved themselves as champions. Don't give me that "twenty title defenses" B.S.

Here'e a few other fighters who confound me that they had tons of fans:

    1. prince naseem
    2. mike tyson
    3. roy jones jr.

what did any of these people really do?

there are fighters who have actually done something:

    1. joe louis
    2. "sugar" ray robinson
    3. julio cesar chavez

AND, why don't people have any love for Jermain Taylor!? He is the future of the middleweight division, all killer, no filler.

Everyone said trinidad was going to beat hopkins... Hopkins TKO'd him. Everyone said Oscar was going to beat b-hop.... hopkins sent him home with a liver shot. Then everyone thought jermaine was going to wreck him. Too much speed, too much power, bernard has never faught someone like jermaine. Then the world watch jermaine taylor throw everything he could at hopkins and land zero punches to hurt the champ. Everyone also saw hopkins stagger tayler three times. The world is pissed, not only at the decision but pissed at themselves for never giving b-hop the benifit of the doubt. Put a challange to bernard hopkins and he finds a way to win, always. Everyone is voting on hopkins to win by KO in the rematch because that's what they want to happen. Everyone wants the belts to go back where they belong. Hopkins belts were stolen from him by the judges and people don't want that to happen again.

I thought he standed a considerable chance...I thought DLH would be light on his feet and outwork Hopkins through speed and just jab him all night...Obviously it wasnt the case but a lot of people thought the same.

People give Hopkins too much credit for beating Tito and Oscar. He was a naturally bigger fighter than them. BHop is a solid solid middleweight champion, but he's nothing that deserves top 5 all time recognition. Seriously, he has beaten two hall of famers that started out at 140. Otherwise he never has beaten anyone else that is considered great or even really good for that matter.

Where do you list Marvin Hagler?

Haglers biggest fights were from welterweights...Kind of contradictory to hold him high and not Hopkins.

Hagler barely cracks my top 5....meaning I have him 5th. Sugar Ray was better than both DLH and Tito by far.

Bernard Hopkins is a great story in and outside the ring in my opinion.

Marvin Hagler's PRE-TITLE opposition is superior to most Hopkins challengers.

None of Hagler's opposition is even close to the talent level of Hakkar. That's the end of your argument.
