The pre-tournament favorite, Kessler announced his withdrawal complaining of double vision. Color me skeptical at that news. I became even more su****ious of Kessler’s injury after seeing Showtime’s Fight Camp 360 on Wednesday, in which Kessler was driving his car and talking to the camera after he had withdrawn from the tournament. If he has double vision, is it a good idea to be driving a car at all, let alone while keeping only partial attention on the road? I think not.
Further, his doctor said he’ll be fine after eight months of rest – no surgery needed, miraculously – just at a time when he will be able to resume training and potentially fight the tournament winner.
Add to that Abraham will now be fighting for Kesslers belt, who is promoted by the same guy who promotes Kessler.
So kessler gets the luxury of sitting out, getting some well needed rest, and then gets to automatically fight the winner? I'm very skeptical too. It seems too convenient. You know Sauerland is praying that Abraham wins the tournament so it will be kessler vs abraham.
This is why single round elimination is the only way to go for boxing tournaments. Sure, the super six and this point system looked awesome on paper, but the reality is there is just too much politics in boxing and add to that, it takes too much time.
On top of all this, what's happening with Ward vs Dirrell? I'm beginning to doubt even that fight will happen.
I think his eyes can function normally when he's not being pounded in the face. Considering he said he was struggling with it during training makes me think that even sparring was messing with his vision. There's a huge difference between driving and being hit in the face repeatedly, i hope he can heal and come back as good as he used to be.
