    GOAT Before Boxing's Golden Era

Its almost unanimous within the boxing community that Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong, and Muhammad Ali are the greatest fighters of all time.

But Pre-mid1930s which predecessors were considered the greatest fighters of all time???

The only ones that come to mind are John L. Sullivan and Jack Dempsey. I seriously doubt Jack Johnson or Joe Louis were ever in the discussion at the time given the prejudiced nature of the time period.

thanks man. doesnt exactly answer my question directly but it's a step in the right direction. It's amazing how many responses my flame threads get when i'm bored with people telling me i dont know anything about boxing or that i'm not a fan of the sport but whenever i make an actual boxing thread it never seems to get past the 1st page.

It's actually a simple question. Just not sure if we have the resources or documentation of it since it's pretty subjective.

Asking who the best fighters are in any given timeframe in the sport's history is simple.

asking who the greatest fighters of all time are is pretty simple since 95% of all boxing historians will come up with a nearly identical top 5 in some form or another.

but i noticed since the consensus top 3 all fought pretty much within the same era I was just wondering who historians regarded as the greatest of all time before any of them were around.
