I think this is a smart move by Showtime. At first I was disappointed by this as I was looking forward to another group stage but after a minute or two I realized this is a great way to go. Bringing another fighter in at this stage really doesn't make sense and Green can't and won't be competitive against anyone in the tournament.
In addition to all of this, the tournament though extremely fun and exciting has been mired by injuries and delays. Now we can trim the fat and get this thing done!Comment

I am neither British nor American and I have Froch 0-2, honestly. If the fight against Dirrell had been in a different venue, Dirrell would've won. It's okay, it was a close fight and hometown decisions are part of the sport unfortunately. But, in reality, Froch is far from being what he himself thinks he is. I do think Froch vs. Abraham is going to be a helluva fight, but I expect Abraham to win because Froch can't really outbox him.Comment

I am British and I think Froch got exposed in each of his last 3 fights.
Taylor boxed Froch's socks off more convincingly than Dirrell or Kessler. Taylor beat himself with his poor stamina. Froch did well to rally late but Taylor was well up on the scorecards, he put Froch on his arse and if he had the stamina in the last few rounds could have KO'd Froch imo. Taylor should have took the knee and waste time to get the decision rather than stand there defenceless knowing the ref would stop it. But watch that fight again, Taylor's ability is far from gone, sadly he lacks the heart or the stamina anymore.
Dirrell, ran like a chicken shít for the first 5 rounds, but then as soon as he grew in confidence he too started boxing Froch's head off. He looked a cut above Froch, in fact it looked like Froch wasn't even in Dirrell's league as soon as he started engaging Froch, he was outboxing him, outworking him and was unlucky not to get a draw, but Dirrell only has himself to blame with his negative tactics at the start. Froch was very poor as well. Dirrell will go down as Froch's best name on his resume, Dirrell will go on to great things and people won't believe Froch beat him.
Kessler, nothing really close about this one other than some tightly contested rounds near the end. Froch looked better in this fight than he did against Dirrell and Taylor because Kessler isn't a fast slick fighter so Froch didn't have to chase him about. Kessler though put on a clinic, he stood toe to toe with Froch in a war and better boxing ability prevailed. Watch the fight again there's no way Froch won. Froch did well, but Kessler's technical ability, shone through. He beat Froch at his own game.
That said, I think Froch will hammer Abraham (another fighter who Dirrell outclassed).
Froch has two good names on his resume in Dirrell and Taylor, history will look fondly on that, but imo, he doesn't really deserve either, he was exposed in both.
If Dirrell ever fights Froch again, in Froch's hometown or any where else, it will be one of the widest decisions (in Dirrell's favour) you'll see in boxing.Last edited by Grimmer; 09-02-2010, 02:24 AM.Comment

But as for Dirrell and Ward, there is little to no chance they would be fighting each other at this point of their careers if it wasn't for the Super Six. The fact they are suppose to fight in 25 days and have no venue, tickets or promotion going on suggests that the fight could be dead in the water. There's a reluctance for both to fight as they are good friends, with the Super Six on the verge of collapsing I can see them both pulling out and going seperate ways and fighting different people for a few years until they've both become bigger stars.
It's a shame because I was looking forward to seeing these two fight potentially twice if they both made the final, which would also set them up for a final fight to make the trilogy after the Super Six when they have both cleaned up the division.
.
I am good friends with Dirrell's cousin, he's the fat guy with the dreadlocks who was always eating something on the FightCamp 360 program.
Well I talked to him at the media workouts for Dirrell-Abraham and he told me point blank that Dirrell and Ward would not be fighting next.
He didn't really elaborate and at the time I just blew it off like maybe he just supports his cousin but doesn't understand the tournament structure that's going on.
Now I look back and wonder if maybe the two Andre's intentions all along was for them to fight the first two fights, see where each man stands, and then have one of them retire from the tourney with the understanding that the other man would win the whole thing.. and then fight them later.
If that's the case they certainly won't hesitate to call it off now.Comment

Ward isn't gonna give Kessler a rematch, he has nothing to prove by fighting him again.
If Abraham or Froch win they will happily fight Kessler for big money in Europe. If Ward wins he will just vacate the WBC title before wasting his time beating a guy he has already completely dominated.Comment

Ward won every minute of every round and embarrassed Kessler in the most one sided beating I have seen a heavily favored fighter take in the past 5 years.
Anyone who thinks an older, slower, blinder Kessler is gonna turn the tables on a guy who is improving with every fight.... is ******ed... for lack of a better word.Comment

To be honest I don't think either one intended to drop out from the start, the Super Six as it was envisioned would have been a very prestigious achievement for any SMW to win, so when they signed up I think both wouldn't have minded putting their friendship to one side as well as a bigger payday than what they will get if they fight each other this soon, to fight in a competitive match for a very important competition.
But now, what is the Super Six worth? It's falling apart and it has lot a lot of its prestige, especially now two places have dropped out and a round of matches has been cancelled.
Whether we like it or not Dirrell v Ward could probably wait a few more years, cleaning out the division and then fight on HBO for much more than they will get now. The Super Six is tainted, it would be a good achievement for either to win but it's lost a lot of its glamour. I can really see them both acknowledging this and thinking "Why are we fighting now in a tournament which have lost its appeal with all the controversies that have taken place?, You go your way I'll go my way and when the time and the money is right, we'll fight".
I hope I'm wrong, it's a fight I really want to see.Comment

Just make the winner of Froch and Abe the winner of the super six. Dirrell doesn't have the stones to fight Ward and no one cares anyway. Dirrell should retire, she's just too soft and whiny to be anything of note. Super two of Froch and Abe should end this circus. Put dirrell on dancing with the stars where he belongs or on americas next super model.Comment
