Back in 1995, 250,000 African-American males - under the leadership of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan - converged in Washington D.C. for the "Million Man March". According to Wikipedia, the Million Man March was "an effort to 'convey to the world a vastly different picture of the Black male' and to unite in self-help and self-defense against economic and social ills plaguing the African American community."
The reason I bring this up is that there are persistent rumors - and yes, these are just rumors - that a grassroots movement is said to be in place to organize a "Million Filipino March" to be held in Dallas, Texas on November 12, 2010, to "promote the unity of Global Filipinos in support of their Motherland". Unlike the highly successful Million Man March organized by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan in the 1995, the Million Filipino March would include women.
What makes this so-called Million Filipino March, which is rumored to organized by a Roman Catholic priest, who is based in the United States, is that there probably are less than 1 million Filipinos inside the United States. How these organizers are going to make this thing successful is beyond me.
I really hope and pray that this rumored movement is a real political movement not Bob Arum's sneaky way of promoting the Pacquiao-Margarito fight which is scheduled to happen on Nov. 13. Coincidence?
