Kimbo coming to boxing!
YouTube sensation Kimbo Slice is giving up his mixed martial arts career and opting to fight just with his fists, as he told ESPNNewYork.com on Thursday that he wants to see if he can succeed in the boxing world.
"I'm thinking about this at night. I'm gonna be a problem in the heavyweight division, I'm going to be coming in with a bad demeanor," Slice said. "I want to see what it's like to break some ribs, break a jaw with one punch."
The 36-year-old Florida resident is aiming for a debut sometime between October and December if his training goes well, according to his advisor "Icy" Mike Imber.
Slice went 4-2 in his MMA career, but New Jersey-based boxing promoter Gary Shaw said he thinks with proper coaching he could be a heavyweight title contender after five or six fights.
"I've always said he could be a world champion," said Shaw, who was an executive at Elite XC, which staged Slice's first four MMA fights."I believe in that more than ever. This is not the era of Tyson, Holyfield and Lennox Lewis."
Slice isn't ruling out a return to MMA in the future, saying he enjoyed his stint with the UFC and appreciated the chance UFC boss Dana White gave him.
