September 4th: Jorge Solis vs Francisco Cordero

Jorge Solis is 30 years old with a record of 39-2-2 with 28 KO's. He's coming off 2 wins against Mario Santiago (UD) [Video: 12th round] and Likar Ramos (KO) [Video: Highlights] (both fights in 2010). He lost a UD in July of 2009 to Cristobal Cruz and got KO'd by Manny Pacquiao [Video: KO] in 2007. In early 2009 he knocked out Monty Meza Clay [Video: TKO Stoppage] and picked up a UD against Miguel Roman in mid 2008. It's clear Solis has faced some excellent competition and beat some quality boxers.

Francisco Cordero is 24 years old with a record of 23-0-0 with 15 KO's. He's fought 6 times since the beginning of 2009 facing guys with a combined record of 44-37-2. All but one of those fights has been in Columbia. The only good record on his resume was Japan's Koseki Nakama who was 14-1 headed into that fight (the only fight outside Columbia since 2009). Cordero won a split decision in an 8 round fight [Video: Last 2 minutes of this bout]. Nakama has lost once more since Cordero topped him.

This is definitely a huge step up for Cordero. Does Solis still have quite a bit left? Have you ever seen Cordero? Just looking at resume I see little chance of Cordero getting a win.

This fight is headlining next weekends Top Rank Live card airing on Fox Sports en Espanol.

I think the split decision against a Japanese fighter is a bad sign. He looked completely gassed at the end of that fight in the 8th round. If he can last against Solis it's scheduled for 12. You never know though, sometimes guys come out of nowhere.
