The fight between Toney and Couture was being billed MMA vs BOXING.
Well that wasn't entirely true. A boxer WAS fighting a mixed martial artist in a mixed martial art contest under MMA rules.
If Kobe played TO one on one in a basketball game, would it be basketball vs. football? Or would it be a basketball and a football player playing basketball? So before you start yelling UFC is better, blah blah blah. Let’s keep things in perspective guys.
Last night's freak show didn't prove anything except that an athlete should compete and stay in his lane.

He has made a fool out of himself. This result was not surprising at all.

I get that Toney was a fool for taking this but what does this have to do with his boxing accomplishments?? James Toney is a an all time great and a first ballot hall of famer so what are you implying with this comment??

Yeah Toney is definitely past his prime and we live in a culture of "what have you done for me lately" but Toney's boxing resume is rock solid. Point to me where you would differ.

That doesn't excuse Toney for making a mockery of boxing by not training for this and looking pathetic. He is desperate for cash, I guess. Very sad.

Well you can't teach an old dog new tricks!! I know that if James Toney would have been a MMA fighter from the beginning he would be a first ballet hall of fame in that sport too. But he's a boxer and is to old now to learn a new sport specially one that has a whole lot to learn probably more than any other sport. That what makes this pointless! He's never going to be a great MMA fighter. He might get a few wins from better match ups or catching guys but unless he shows the skills of an MMA fighter it won't matter. The only way is if he wins by using the techniques you learn in MMA via tap out or even a KO from a kick. Thats not going to happen though hes to old to really learn those techniques. I would give a young James Toney a good chance against an old Randy Couture only because Toney would be in better shape and a better athlete. Young Couture vs young Toney ends in the same result. In the end if you are retiring or should retire from one sport because your no longer good at it then your definitely not going to do better in a whole new sport.

LOL, it looked like Couture was beating on a beached whale, hopefully he STFU now and doesn't embarass himself or boxing from now on.

Him calling out the Klitschkos looks even more ridiculous now, you just got your @ss beat by a 50-year old man Toney, Wlad and Vitaly would kill you.

this is the type of action that tarnishes boxing. James Toney should be ashamed of himself.... MMA fans are already saying "i told you so".... they should put Randy Couture in the boxing ring with any quality cruiserweight.... the result would be couture on the ground being counted out.

People saying that it's now Randy's turn to go into boxing are just naieve.

Randy never called out Toney, chased promoters around begging for a fight, talked tons of ****, and claim he would KO the best of their sport. Toney came out talking all kinds of **** and got embarrassed. The fault in the matchup is noone but Toney's. They guy didn't even show up to the post fight press conference because he was so embarrassed. He needs to learn some humilty. The whole time building up to the fight he's like, "I'm the most feared man in boxing" and "I'm the Heavyweight Champ of the world" blah blah blah. He's a moron and deserved to get humiliated. Even the boxing world wasn't backing him on this one.

                      Exactly. As simple as that.

Maybe what they should have done is to have alternate "half/half" fights...meaning:

                      • first half of round in boxing
                      • second half of round in wrestling

                      round by round....

I still think that Toney is over the hill now and Couture can weather the storms due to his physical conditioning and skills.

But in the future perhaps they can do that....as mentioned above.

                      But perhaps

                      1st round : 1st half boxing/2nd half wrestling
                      2nd round: 1st half wrestling/2nd half boxing

and so on...switching often. Then if one taps out in wrestling they can keep going on the boxing round and "total" the scores in the end.

                      Or something like that.
