Well technically Cotto can't be ranked higher than Marg by the WBC since Cotto has the WBA title. When you win a major title the other major sanctioning bodies take you off their rankings. That is why I like the IBO more than the major 4. But, that is a discussion for another day.

Now if we going straight 154 rankings and not sanctioning rankings like the WBC. Then Cotto is higher ranked by the respectable rankings like The Ring and BoxingScene etc etc.... Margarito is not even ranked by The Ring or boxingScene top 10 at 154.

I have to disagree. He is a top 5 all time entertainer in boxing, a top 5 greatest story in all of boxing, but he is not a top 5 all time boxer when you look at resume or skill. The fights that have taken him from a favorite of hardcore fans to a household name (De La Hoya, Hatton, Cotto, & Clottey) aren't that impressive especially when you consider the point in their careers and/or the circumstance he forced them to fight under. He is impressive, entertaining, and one of the best doing it at a relatively weak time for boxing, but he's not a top 5 ATG
