You forgot to put in that part where the guy has to be able to flap his ears, whilst pivoting, and that his pivot on ONE TOE must take place at the very same time a check is being presented by a "hook" at your local bank.
Everything has to be times and synchronized.
As I was learning to fight, we never heard of a "check hook" and I think it's a fairly recently invented term. Of course over in the States there are all kinds of different names invented for punches and other things long well known in different parts of the worlk under other names.
So ther's nothing new about the "check hook" , I recall my trainer, a top of the line bantamweight boxer named Frankie Kerr (father of Brian Kerr the famous soccer coach) used to throw it, at least I believe that's what it was. And, actually, he did pivot on his back foot, not much but enough to SNAP his punch downwards, at the jaw of his incoming opponent. It was a close action punch.
He TIMED the punch so that it reached top, snapping velocity (like a whip lash) at the very moment it connected with the jaw. This made it sudden, hard to see, and meeting the target at full power. To me it's very like a matador's action, nailing the bull as he just avoids his rush.
The usual hook is a longer range punch THROUGH the target, probably more powerful, but also more predictable.
Whew....That's the first time I've really bothered about the "check hook". As far as I was concerned the only time it's been PUBLICIZED has been the punch that mayweather lan ded on Hatton's chin, just before he ran headlong into the ring post and KO'd himself.Comment

Forgot to mention that Frankie would also move his back foot to the side, before the pivot, the distance depending on how far he felt needed to be, to be just out of line of the opponent's onrush. Then......PONK. I just tried it out to see how it went, and nearly fell through the mirror. Only kidding.Comment

Someone just telephoned me, a "friend", suggesting that I should try it again, and maybe I'd be lucky enough to fall through the mirror this time....... NASTY!Forgot to mention that Frankie would also move his back foot to the side, before the pivot, the distance depending on how far he felt needed to be, to be just out of line of the opponent's onrush.
