  • WelterWeight division, WTF?

I know that the Welterweight division has been keeping boxing alive for a few years, I've been noticing that as that division goes, so does boxing.

Lately there are only two CLOWNS left in the division, then everybody else is willing to move up or down just because the division is lacking good boxers.

Now what we have is people talking trash about boxing, people who don't know anything about it calling a boxer a coward, people questioning the testing method, everybody now more concern about purse than fighting.

    1. the welterweight divisions 140-154 have more than those 2 clowns.

    2. there have been "ducking" in the sport since the beginning of the sport.

    3. professional boxers have always been concerned about the purses. boxing is their job. that's how they make a living.

    4. even the testing bull**** ain't new (even though floyd's testing demand is probably the most demanding)

tyson asked holyfield to take an extra test. zab wanted shane to take extra tests.

It's crazy that it's Pac, Floyd, and then the big drop off to Berto.

Cotto left, Margarito left, Mosley will probably be back but has a fight at 154 right now, Clottey is probably going to move up.

There won't be any stars at welterweight until some of the 140 fighters move up.

147 may have the best 2 fighters but I find 140 and 168 as more interesting divisions...as far as the fights go...

I was actually referring to the true WW(147) not Jr., or Super, I know those division have some good fights in the future, but casual fans have no interest in those fights.

Like bojangles said, once you get past the two clowns it's berto, collazo, and a few others. And it also seems when boxing is shining, it's when this division is shining. That's my perspective at it.

You missed one, Oscar asked Floyd for additional tests also... But in a nutshell you're rite, But I see it as a media problem.
The media has full control on what the casuals see and know. If ESPN calls Floyd a coward, gives a twisted view on why they say that then there you have it.

Boxing is alive and well, in prety much every div we have go to guys... But the media puts these 2 guys in peoples faces, blows it up and thats all people who dont follow boxing see and know.

The Welterweight division is the weakest it's been for years & it shows by the 2 top fighters there.Right now 140 is better & the 2 men at 154 that can fight at 147 will be avoided like the plague,"Cintron & the Punisher".

That's exactly what i'm talking about, when the WW DIV is in the spotlight, people talk about boxing, when it's out of the spotlight, people talk about other sports.

The people in these forums know that the JR and Super DIV have better fights upcoming, but if you ask the casual fan, they'll have no interest or clue of what's going on.

I truly believe that the arrival of Manny & the return to the ring of Floyd has completely besieged that division!!They have brought a cancer along with them & it's is slowly eating away at boxing & no one seems to be aware of it!!Two superstars, who won't fight each other & then Pacman is fighting Margarito at a catchweight for a title in a division that neither him nor Margarito are ranked respectibly in.When the Punisher has been screaming to high heaven that he can make 147.If Pacman fought him at his catchweight of 150,no one can complain because the Punisher has valid claim to being elite at 154!!

Then there's Floyd, the other half of the cancer, potentialy the biggest fight in boxing history, the self proclaimed greatest ever tries to win the fight outside the ring & seemingly refuses to get in it with his counterpart!!At least if Floyd fights Berto,he's taking on an actual champion, same can't be said for Pacman. These two need to retire quickly,so that boxing isn't held hostage no more!!
