Former WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev (50-2, 34KOs) was ringside at Messehalle in Erfurt, Germany to watch WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck demolish Matt Godfrey in five rounds. He will undergo surgery for a shoulder injury next week. Valuev has not fought since last November's close points loss to David Haye. He spent the better part of the year trying to negotiate a fight with WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. An offer of $1.5 million was not enough to entice Valuev and Vitali will instead face Shannon Briggs on October 16.
