It's no secret that boxers fight for money instead of for legacy and it's no secret that we fans want the most exciting and significant fights, and we are also the ones who pay to see them fight. If we fans really wanted to change the course of the sport we could. We are after all the one who give promotion to them because when a fighter is up and coming we Real Fans are the ones that tell the Casual Fans to keep an eye on x fighter because he looks exciting or promising, and then based on our advice the casual fans buy x fighters fight. If we were to change the course of boxing it would be as simple as not buying the fights even if they are our favorite fighter. Take for example Floyd Mayweather he gets a lot of hate for not fighting the best but we are the ones that still buy his fights either to see him win or lose. If we don't give in and buy the fights and give bad promotion of how he isn't fighting the best eventually less and less people will buy the fights and obviously there will not be money to pay him what he wants, therefore if he wants the fan's (casual and real fans) money he will have to fight whoever the fans want him to fight. Another example is Pacquiao vs. Margarito that fight everyone is flaming but I know a lot of people will buy the fight because come fight week they will fall for the promotion and be excited for it, if you don't give in the hype that HBO, promoters do then fighters will be forced to fight who the fans demand they fight, like I said we real fans are the ones who tell the casual fans either to buy or not. Another example of how we aren't doing good for the sport is the Marquez vs. Diaz II, granted the rematch didn't seem necessary but the undercard on paper was stacked, if more people would have bought that PPV promoters or went there promoters would see the results of how a stacked PPV undercard can change the money that comes in. I know this sounds idealistic and ****** but if you think about it, doing things like this could work to change the sport for the better. We fans should take control of the sport and get a say on what fight the promoters should make instead of buying ****** fights they hype up to be good matchups when we as knowledgable fans know they really aren't but still get caught up in the hype.
