Well, I always took it to mean a fighter that's reminiscent of those periods in boxing, like the 50s, where guys would fight with blood streaming down their face, and get up from getting knocked down three times in a round and keep going ... That's always how I've taken it, but I could be dead wrong.

I think Bob Foster defined a throw-back fighter perfectly, right here. http://www.newmexicoboxing.com/histo...bobfoster.html

A fighter who knows every punch, angle, in and out of the game. Will do whatever it takes to win and relies on little tricks to help him best his opponent. Will even bend the rules a little to help them get the W. These are my favorite kinds of fighters usually.

Modern day versions are James Toney and Bernard Hopkins.

Chico gave you a good example of a throwback (well not completely but somewhat) move with the mouthpiece removal/spitting not so long ago. He knew that he had to get more time to get his head together, and he used what could be seen as a small flaw in boxing rules to get that extra time. Some think it's cheating, others think it's genious.

Morales is a throwback to those classic Mexican warriors like Chavez/Sanchez and is a classic boxer as well. He can do just about everything well and throws punches from every angle with technique and precision. He never ducks a big fight and will go to war at the drop of a hat.

When it's all said and done he'll be one of the greatest little guys and p4p boxers to ever do it.

Errr...A "throwback" fighter is someone you could have placed in any era and they would have succeeded.
