Many casual fans and people who do not pay attention to boxing very often tend to assume that boxing is a black man's sport and that all the decent boxers are black.
I've just had a look at the ring ratings for all the weights and out of 176 boxers (top ten in each weight class, plus champions) there are only 41 black boxers.
That's only 23 %, just under a quarter.
To all of us, this is not surprising, but to most of the general public, I'm sure many would be very surprised.
Maybe it's just due to certain black boxers being very loud, publicizing their own fights, such as Ali, Tyson and Mayweather.
Anyway, I thought this was interesting.
And so you all know, this is not a racist thread, don't make it one. Yes I am white, but my favourite boxers are Ali, RJJ, Toney and Mayweather.
This thread is just referring to what a lot of the general public assume.
thoughts?
thanks
