Emanuele Augustus (nee Burton) - what's the big up?

Last night I got myself a new favourite fighter to watch. I'd been vaguely aware of threads talking about an Oliveira fight (who I'd seen once) and Augustus (who I'd never seen before) but didn't really take much notice.

Augustus seemed to have talent by the truckload, and although this week's Boxing News looks down upon his "showboating" dismissively, I thought it was one of the most unique and skillful things I've ever seen. Putting himself in and out of range... by disco dancing. This is a guy I would definitely want to see again.

Sadly, however, the fight had the most disturbing, unsettling conclusion I think I've ever seen in a boxing match. Deeply unpleasant to watch, and even more ominous following Oliveira's fight instructions wish of "God bless".

Yet last night I was so impressed with Augustus I checked up on his record... and it's pretty dire. He's got almost as many losses & draws (30) as wins (31) and has lost as many fights as he's won since 2000 (9 apiece).

How can someone with so much apparent talent do so badly? What's the good wordy?

      hmm

      How was the ending tragic?

To answer you, from what I've heard, Augustus was robbed a lot, ha sbeen lazy in the past, and has now vowed to really commit himself more than ever before. He should fight Hatton.

He often takes fight on 2 weeks notice, he got robbed in a lot of occasion vs hometown dude, he smokes a lot of weed and does not always train properly.

But still is my favorite fighter, it's time for him to have a championship fight. He's going to be kind of like a smaller version on Glen Johnson.

i dont think it is really showboating. maybe thats the only way he can land punches. if it works then why not do it.

and the end of the fight while it seemed bad, was only a pinched nerve, not very serious.

he is entertaining, but to say he deserves a shot at Hatton is ridiculous. he has to earn his way there. and up to this point he has not done that.

In what sense? Is he normally a brawler rather than a boxer?

Boxing News gave the impression that he only did his dancing moves because Oliviera didn't pose a threat. Is this the case?

yea he's filled in on short notice alot.

ive seen him ahead in fights then he all of a sudden starts clowning around.

the frankenstein disco steps he's been using in the last few fights has been developed over time.

the poor guy blows the judges and refs minds with his antics and has got some horrendous calls against him in opponents backwater hometowns,i.e. courtny burton up in minnisota.

the guys fought his last two fights while being suspended for failing drug test after the burton fight for reefer.

                    emanuel dont get any breaks.

its good to hear more people getting behind him.

he deserves a title fight. hope he beats someone with a paper belt so he can get a big money fight against big names like hatton.

                    maybe a witter fight.

augustus is probably the only one crazy enough to go to england and fight hatton/parris.

he deserves a big money fight.
