Comments Thread For: Erik Morales – Still Leaving It All In The Ring

By Thomas Gerbasi - I insisted this day would never come, but at 42, I’ve become THAT guy. You know the one, a little gray on the temples who looks around, sighs, and says, ‘well, things were better back when I was younger.’

As the months have piled up, I’ve noticed it more and more, and while things were really good back in my formative boxing years during the 80’s, even the past five to ten years look better than they do now.

Never was this more evident than while watching Chad Dawson’s title fight against Jean Pascal. Round after round I waited for Dawson to do something that would mark him as a fighter who wanted to fight. Oh, he would shift into gear occasionally, making it painfully obvious that if he stepped on the gas for more than 30 second spurts, he would have probably gotten Pascal out of there and delivered an eye opening performance that would have – hold your hats for this one – actually made you want to see him again. I know, it’s a bizarre concept, but it’s one that made the greats who they are. [Click Here To Read More]

Morales should retire and stop dreaming. He is already down the hill. He should just promote fights instead.

Nostalgia is deadly and distorts one's view of reality. The "good old days" were never as good as they seem. Yes, there was Ali-Frazier, but there was also Ali-Wepner. There was Larry Holmes versus Tex Cobb. And many, many more such debacles.

The Klitschkos actually enjoy the process of inflicting pain on their opposition before putting them away. Is everyone supposed to be like 80s Mike Tyson, blasting out tomato cans in one round? If you like boxing, what's wrong with watching a fighter methodically beat down his opponent? Winning is the name of the game.

Toney fighting in the UFC is just plain sad, no matter how it turns out. Toney's last few fights as a BOXER were pathetic. He really lost to Fres Oquendo and got a robbery/gift decision. He can barely beat people I've never heard of. Toney was great, but he was never a great heavyweight -- that is the truth.

When you're fighting tomato cans you're supposed to crush them in spectacular fashion. Not play patty cake with them.

That's why Tyson will always be a legend and why the Klits are a bore.
