MEXICO CITY - Mexican boxer Rafael Marquez injured his right thumb and will not fight on September 18 against the Puerto Rican Juan Manuel Lopez for the featherweight title of World Boxing Organization (WBO), news reports said.

Marquez told today's edition of the Mexican newspaper Record that a doctor recommended to be between six and eight weeks without hitting hand.

"I am very disappointed with what has happened to me, everyone knows that's the fight I was waiting, but I can not definitely be ready for the September 18," said Marquez Record, published by The Associated Press.

The boxer said he hurt his finger when closing the door of his truck.

The fight was scheduled to perform at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"I do not know what will happen now, not when I make again. I come out of the doctor, he told me not to fight, I'm sad for me, Juan Manuel and all Mexicans who wanted to see us together 18 in Las Vegas "he added.

Meanwhile, Lopez's manager was told by The New Day Marquez's injury and stated that his promotional company, Top Rank, identify the seriousness of the injury, if any, and will tell the unbeaten Puerto Rican champion what the course to follow.

"I contacted our spokesman in the company and told me some time. He will contact the company to check the veracity of the news, see if there is a consequence and catch up with what we are doing ... see what will be the plan B, "Orlando said Pineiro, driver and coentrenador Lopez.
