Comments Thread For: Ariza: If Margarito Falls Through, Bring on Marquez Trilogy

Even as he expected the Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito fight to push through on November 13, Pacquiao’s conditioning expert Alex Ariza indicated that if there was a decision to replace Margarito due to his inability to get a license in Texas - then a credible replacement would be lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez - which he said “is a good fight” although Ariza noted he didn’t know the status of the relationship between Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and Golden Boy Promotions, who promote Marquez. Marquez would probably price himself out.

Plus it's an Arum/Schaefer thing again. Chances of it happening are close to none.

It wouldn't be an interesting fight anymore. JMM has been through countless wars since his prime back in 2004. I don't know if he can take another multiple-KD round.

Plus it would be at 141-147. that's just not fair.

wouldn't it be crazy if Marquez goes on and wins that fight?

i would be for it at 140, Manny can make that weight with ease

he [Manny] wasn't too heavy his last fight

        Make it happen!

But, the fight should take place at a "catch" of 140lbs MAX fight night. Meaning neither guy can weigh over 140lbs the night of the fight (hey that sounds a lot like the Pac Cotto fight).

This would make it interesting and it wasn't too long ago that Pac fought Hatton weighing officially at 138lbs. Pac makes all the "bigger" guys come to him. He can move down to JMM and make the fight.

Whats interesting to me is that Pac and Arum are going way out of their way to fight a guy with no license. There are plenty of other fighters out there that Pac and Bob could have “picked” other than Margarito. You can’t justify this fight at all, especially now that he’s been denied yet again. There are plenty of other fighters with a license that have actually accomplished something in the ring in the past 2 years. Some that even could bring a belt to the table yet Bob is going through hoops to get Margarito in the ring.

Kind of makes you wonder if he had ever intended to have Pac fight Mayweather. He’s sure pushing this fight really hard don’t you think?

If it's at 140, I think I give JMM a bigger chance to beat Pac than Margs at 147.

              Styles.

Never has there been a Strengh & Conditioning Coach got so much publicity. What about Pepper Roach and Shane Langford? What are their thoughts on Pacquiao's potential opponents?

Yea its really wierd that a man who has no decision or word on this would actually comment on it.

I would expect Roach to say this but Ariza, CMON

Marquez should never fight over 135 again imo, he's already a slower older guy at lightweight. He has no shot against Pac at them higher weight classes, he probably get stopped.
