Interview with JEAN PASCAL (talks DAWSON, BUTE & more)

    (interview conducted by CKACSports.com)

Host : Ladies and gentlemen, the WBC light heavyweight champion, the self-proclaimed King of Montreal, Jean Pascal. Good morning, Jean !

    Pascal : Morning.

Host : Great win last weekend. Were you scared ?

    Pascal : Of what ?

Host : well, scared a bit of the future, Chad Dawson is an awesome boxer...

Pascal : No. I wasn't scared, I was excited with the thought of overcoming this challenge. I was enthusiastic and anxious to
    get back in the ring.

Host : I was your best opponent to date, ranked among the best P4P in the world. When did you start to feel comfortable with him in the
ring ? How were the first rounds for you ?

Pascal : The first rounds went exactly as planned, we wanted to come out strong because we knew Chad Dawson liked to have a strong advance in points at the beginning.
So we thought if we could get the first 3 rounds, we'd push him to progressively make mistakes trying to get the upper hand back.

Host : Did you feel at one point during the fight that he gave you the respect that you deserved ?

Pascal : He felt like he was faster than me. He saw during the fight that it wasn't the case. He thought he was smarter, stronger and more talented than
I and I already told beforehand than if he didn't give me respect before I was going to get it from him during the fight.

Host : Jean, you had a great preparation. Tell me what was your strategy to face Dawson ?

Pascal : People though there was only one way to beat Dawson : to fight inside, to rough him up. However, I knew I has the
abilities to rival with him : I knew I had the strength, the punch, the speed. We convened that we would move a lot and launch a lot of
    surprise attacks on him.

Host : What were you the most satisfied with your performance ?

Pascal : It was the first time I felt that comfortable and at ease in the ring. The first time I felt in control of the situation
. I felt no pain in the shoulder during the fight and that's the first time in 3 years. I felt great, prepare physically and mentally really well. I had
the best preparation and also the fans behind me.

Host : You must feel very reassured about the shoulder...

Pascal : Yes, a lot. I can stop worrying about it in the future.

Host : Time for Pascal to cash in, ain't it ?

Pascal : It's not so much about the money, but more about the challenge, the next fights.

Host : Talk about your future : how you see it, you've already sent an invitation to LUCIAN BUTE, we already learned last weekend
that HBO is pushing for a fight between you and him. How much would you love to face him ?

Pascal : I sent no invitation to BUTE. I became last weekend the best boxer from Quebec, I became the best light heavyweight on the planet, and at the same time, one of the best boxer on Planet Earth...

    Host : *chuckles*

Pascal : ... so I have nothing else to prove to Montreal or Quebec so if Lucian Bute feels he is the king in town he is the one who has to challenge me.

Host : OK. So you're waiting for Lucian to make the first move, right ?

Pascal : Yes. However I'm 100% ready for this challenge becaue I know it would be a hard but great fight.

Host : Because Bute's promoter (Jean Bedard, INTERBOX) think light heavyweight is to heavy for LUCIAN and maybe it'd be better for him to face the already great boxers in his category after the Super 6.

Pascal : well the SUper 6 is over in a year and meanwhile he'll have to fight and I'm the one who's got everything to loose because if he jumps at 175 it's gonna be for my titles and if he wins he has the whole choice.

Host : But earlier I proposed to Bute's promoter to do the fight at say, 172 ?

Pascal : Yeah but at 175 I'm already at 5% body fat ...

Host : But you already were at 168...

Pascal : Yeah and I was at 4% fat which was bad for my health and I also lost against Froch.

Host : Talk about the after-fight...

Pascal : I was very happy, I went out partying at the club and I loved the people's appreciation. People said I had a big mouth, that i put a lot of pressure on myself, but it was more motivation to me.

Host : Talk about the fight ending, isn't it a bit dissapointing to end like this ?

Pascal : Of course. But he was the one attacking at the time, so if the would be someone who was guilty of head-butting it'd be him not me. However I was unanimously favorite in the end and if the fight would have lasted till round 12 I would have won anyway.

Host : Talk about your next opponent. If not Lucian, who ? Your idol, Roy Jones, or Bernard Hopkins ?

Pascal : Honestly, I like challenge, whoever wants to stand in my way.

Host : Jean Pascal, thanks for your time. I think you exagerate when you say you'll "invade the US"

Pascal : I exaggerate ? No, I think it's important to have high goal, set the bar high for motivation, and let me tell you, it's just the beginning.

Host : Well don't give up, you have proven that people just can't come around here and leave with the titles. Bute's promoter told this morning that he had lunch with Gary Shaw and HBO 2 days before your fight to talk about BUTE VS. DAWSON. How do you feel upon hearing this ?

Pascal : Well, I don't really care about this. I knew perfectly that i was going to win so I knew that little lunch was a waste of time as well as a waste of money.

Host : *chuckles* Alright thanks Jean !

    Pascal ; Thanks.
