do boxers use their real names?

something ive always wondered about boxers and other professional athletes, do they use their birth names that are on their birth certificates? or do they create names for themselves that are easier for fans to remember/pronounce, etc.?

Some guys use different names:

Walker Smith- Sugar Ray Robinson (that was the name of some other amateur boxer whom he was filling in for or took the ID by mistake or something like that)

Arnold Cream- Jersey Joe Walcott

Joseph Louis Barrow- Joe Louis

Guglielmo Papaleo- Willie Pep

The majority of boxers will use their real name though there are plenty that don't for different reasons. Some examples:

William Demsey - Jack Dempsey, after his idol The Nonpareil Jack Dempsey.

Dwight Braxton - Dwight Qawi, when he changed religion he changed name, probably the most common reason for changing name, some other examples, Matthew Saad Muhammad, Muhammad Ali etc.

Ultiminio Zaqueira - Sugar Ramos, people had problems pronouncing Zaquiera correctly so he used his middle name , Ramos, instead.

I think he didn't have a license to fight at the time of his first amateur bout, so he used somebody else's whose name was Ray Robinson...but I could be wrong.
