    Boxing most tragic figures

Jack Johnson - 1st Black heavyweight champion, he was Ali before there ever was one, had his title ripped from him by legal mumbo jumbo that kept him from boxing and out of boxing shape and he got martyred in the ring late in his career....

Sam Langford - Never got credit when he deserved it...died penniless and blind

Joe Louis - THE GREATEST Heavyweight Champion IMO, did a lot for the sport, did a lot for this country and all he got for it was the ****ing IRS breathing down his neck when he could no longer earn a living and when he should have just been taking it easy.

Joe Frazier - Went toe to toe with all comers, took 1 of 3 from Ali in 3 great fights. He should have earned Ali's respect, but was mocked, called an Uncle Tom and a Gorill, and now he litterally lives in a boxing gym. It's a shame.

Battiling Siki - Tough warrior in the ring and out, died after a bender...a cop shot him in the back of the head.

Billy Collins Jr - Destroyed from the Resto fight, died in a car wreck while driving drunk not too long after.

Alexis Arguello - The Sandinistas took everything from him, then when they needed his help, he naively offered it, they gave him hope and then threw him in the gutter, he took his own life out of nothing more than humiliation and dispair.

George Chuvalo - nobody's had a tougher go of it than Georgie....he lost 3 sons (2 to heroine and 1 to suicide) and his wife to suicide after their second son had died.

    In various ways:

Young Griffo, Joe "Old Bones" Brown, Carlos Monson, Billy Papke, Sonny Liston, Les Darcy, Bobby Chacon, Salvador Sanchez (car accident at a very young age), Tyson, Ali, Rolando Navarrete, Vernon Forrest, Zorah Folley, Victor "Young" Perez (held and then killed by the ****s in Auschwitz), Jerry Quarry, Charley Burley ("too good for his own good"), Billy Collins (Resto's victim), Harry Greb and Tiger Flowers (rivals who both died on the operating table separated by a year), Kid McCoy (the "Real McCoy"), Randy Turpin, Stanley Ketchel, Edwin Valero, Marcel Cerdan, Bill Brennan, Pancho Villa, Wallace "Bud" Smith, Gatti, Kirkland Laing (beat no less than Duran, now reportedly homeless), Corrales, Marciano, Gabe Ruelas (was never the same after the Jimmy Garcia fight), Esteban De Jesus, Z "The Dream" Gorress (can't continue his career due to injuries suffered in the ring)...

Boxing-related: Referee Richard Green, who was the third man in the Mancini-Deuk Koo Kim tragic encounter, committed suicide soon after Kim's death and so did Kim's mother.

On the evening of Christmas day 07, a WBO International title match was held in Korea. The defending champion, who was Korean, suffered seizures after the fight (which he won) and was declared brain-dead a week later.

The latest tragedy that I have learned of also happened in Korea. The defending Korean Flyweight champion reportedly suffered brain damage after having been KO'd in a fight held in mid-July and died last week.

Some of those mentioned may not be the most tragic figures in the fight game but, well, a tragedy is a tragedy.

Wilfredo Benitez, it's sad the way he ended up, well he's still alive but had way too much damage, the same thing with McClellan.

I do believe Benny Leonard died of a heart attack while officiating a fight?
