JAMES TONEY CLEARED ON "STEROIDS!"
REPORT SAYS TONEY "STEROID FREE"
According to Steve Springer of the Los Angeles Times, the New York State Athletic Commission will reverse itself by lifting James Toney's suspension for supposedly being on Steroids. It seems an additional series of tests done on Toney's urine taken April 30 came back "negative." On that night Toney, the former middleweight, super middleweight, and cruiserweight titleholder, he beat champion John Ruiz across the board over 12 rounds, this for the WBA heavyweight title in the famed Madison Square Garden arena.
TONEY HAS PROCLAIMED INNOCENCE FROM START!
The steroid Toney was supposed to have tested positive for "Nandrolene,"
a drug (steroid) that is often used in repairing physical injuries. Anyway, it appears the New York Commission will have to give Toney back the $10,000 they fined him, and change the decision in the record books back to a Toney win, this instead of a "no contest."
DESERVES APOLOGY FROM ALL WHO POINTED FINGER
Being one of the guys that jumped on this story, Toney deserves an apology from myself, and everybody else that painted him with the "steroid" brush in regards to the Ruiz fight. Personally, I think Toney's used steroids prior. But that may have been at the direction of an MD seeing he has had some pretty serious physical injuries. Having been cleared by the New York Commission, the $64,000 question in boxing today is will the WBA give Toney back what is rightfully his, the WBA heavyweight title?
