There is also the diminshing returns factor. Thats why Tyson had to fight in Japan vs Buster. It was hard to keep expecting people to pay $3500-$10k for a ringside seat when a tyson fight lasted 1-2 rds. Conversely, its hard to ask for that money when you know floyd's fights are more appreciated by afficiandos. Once his fights lose the "event" quality through oversatuartion they bring in less money.

The 24/7's (HBO gets HUGE ratings when floyd is on) take big money to produce plus the expenses it takes to get Liev Schrieber to and from to do voice overs. Then the marketingand promotion. You are talking $100 mil plus to do 3 fights per year before we talk opponents, undercard, and any other expenses.

c'mon now...dont make it seem as if there isnt enough revenue profit and that Floyd's THAT expensive...if Floyd decided to fight 2-3 times a year, im sure a cable giant like HBO would have no problem funding the promotions

so you're saying, he needs fans to 'miss' him first before he fights again...and that 2 fights a year would be over saturation

But will it make them money. IMO, floyd seels because of his act and his skills. His skills produce lopsided decisions against world clas HOF fighters. Its his act that draws in people. I mean the 24/7 stuff is funny as hell (but even that has gotten stale to a degree).

If HBO has floyd fight 3 times per year can they make consistent money? I don't know. Lets say floyd fought pac in january. WHo can he fight next and get paid? Who can he fight to produce bigger ratings? I think form a macroeconomic standpoint it isn't feasible.

Dunno bout that....it seems to me like the old timers.....kats like JCC and before him would keep in mind what the fans wanted to see.....I mean don't get me wrong ill be the first one to point out that this IS a business....and these kats who chose this career type have a very very short shelf life (compared to more conventional career choices that is) so they have to make their money when they can and as much as they can to keep them legit for the rest of their life......but you can manage to squeeze in the fans in there somewhere.....after all we are the ones who finance the sport.....

Great fights are born when the economics dictate. Remember leonard hearns? great fight right? Fight was held up for almost 2 years so it could generate more income. was the wait for us, the fans?

I would agree with your argument if you were talking 4 times + a year....but 2 to 3 fights a year is more than feasible to do even in today's economic lean times....with the right types of fights IMO

I don't think you are looking at all the costs to put on fights and to broadcast them on ppv TV. Also, the oversaturation is a huge negative factor.

I've been saying this since he fake retired after Hatton.

That period was one of the best in recent memory in the WW division. All fights were being made and nobody ducked and stalled the sport.

Mayweather should've have stayed retired, but since he didn't, here's to hoping he stays retired this time.

The sport is 100x better off without him.

The boxing world would be better of if Sr never EVER appeared infront of a camera, or spoke to the press again. That's for damn sure.

As far as Jr goes, I don't want him to retire. If he still wants to fight, that is. Not this 1 fight every other year bull****. 1 fight/6months would be enough for me, more time in between is stretching it. 1 year is just too much.
