Comments Thread For: Shaw, Criscio Respond To Angulo on Turning Down $750K

On Thursday, BoxingScene.com ran a story where junior middleweight contender Alfredo "El Perro" Angulo explained why he rejected an offer of $750,000 dollars to fight WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. Angulo explained to me that he thought he could negotiate for a little more money. He also didn't think it was right that Martinez was going to get a percentage of the gate. Angulo felt he should be getting a percentage himself since he would be drawing most of the fans in a heavily Mexican populated area like Los Angeles where he believed the fight would be held. that's true though. I have a feeling Perro is going to turn into a bigger ***** later on demanding millions and millions. He should be grateful he ain't fighting on ESPN anymore. Now he wants to sit out instead of fighting Martinez.

And he's damn right! To reject $750,000 offer to challenge MW crown in catchweight and ask more money or gate percentage, that's just plain ******!

"The fact is that I offered Perro $750,000 and told him that is all I have" - Shaw
I told them that $750,000 was all I could get. -Mike Criscio
I told him we might be able to get them up to $800,00 but that would be about it.- Mike Criscio
DiBella offered Shaw, Angulo's promoter, a package of about $1 million, Angulo turned down the fight.
So Shaw keeps 25% of Angulo's money?? Maybe Angulo found about the $1 million they offered Shaw and he wanted a bigger cut?

I can't remember the last time a promoter and manager crucified a fighter for wanting more money. I remember Paul Williams wanted 50/50 cut against Pavlik and I don't remember Dan Goosen or Haymon ****ting all over him for holding out..

Whatever I'm over it, Williams vs Martinez is the fight I want to see anyways.
