    Sal remebered!

    The great Sal Sanchez!
Today marks the 28 years since the death of the Mexican boxing legend Salvador Sánchez. Sanchez born in January of 1959 in Tianguistenco, Estado de Mexico. He made his pro debut on May 4, 1975 and by February 2, 1980 became the WBC featherweight champion by stopping Danny ‘Coloradito’ López in the thirteenth round. Sanchez made nine defenses against Rubén Castillo, Danny López, Patrick Ford, Juan Laporte, Roberto Castañon, Wilfredo Gómez, Pat Cowdell, Jorge Garcia and Azumah Nelson. His win against Puerto Rican boxing legend Wilfredo Gómez is considered one of the most important triumphs ever for a Mexican boxer. Unfortunately his life ended at the age of 23 in an automobile accident on August 12, 1982. He entered the Hall of Fame in 1991. Every year on this date his parents, friends, legends of Mexican boxing and fight fans visit Sanchez’ final resting place and respectfully offer a minute of silence before breaking into a deafening cheer, which brings to mind the unforgettable fights of Salvador Sanchez.
