  • Miguel Cotto: "I'm Ready For The Big Fights"

BoxingScene caught up with one the rising new names in the sport, the WBO junior welterweight champion Miguel Cotto. Cotto has been sweeping through the competition and has compiled a 21-0 record with 17 big wins by way of knockout. Cotto will meet his most dangerous opponent to date when he steps in the ring against Randall Bailey on the undercard of the Dec 11 Vitali Klitschko vs. Danny Williams heavyweight showdown.

Cotto answers a few questions regarding his upcoming bout and what the future may have in store for him.

BoxingScene: Miguel, you are one of the rising stars in this sport. Boxing seems to be recycling the same stars over and over because there aren't enough new stars out there to take their place. Does it put extra pressure on you to perform on a very high level due to the lack of new blood in the last few years? [details]

IMO Cotto has better skills than lil ole tito, trinidad just relys on his power

Tito taking on Mayorga in a come-back bid; now, Miguel facing a powerful puncher: these speak volumes of the attitude of these two personalities. Puerto Ricans have much to be proud of them!

Miguel Cotto: "I'm Ready For The Big Fights"

I'm looking forward to seeing this fight because I really like Cotto's Stlye of boxing, but I think it will be a one sided blowout for Cotto. Bailey is a one dimensional puncher. I know he KO power is something to be feared, but his defense isn't all that good and he doesn't really have any hooks or uppercuts in his arsenal. He is just a big overhand right...

He said he wants Tszyu or Gatti, I don't think he wants Mayweather, Mayweather would completely destroy him..

I was thinking the same thing when I read that. PBF would school him.

2005 will be a make or break year for Cotto, I think he will get a big fight or two and could destroy one of the more heralded guys---from all the fights i've seen of Cotto it looks like he has all the tools to have a great '05 and become a star.

I don't think he'll get Tszyu or Gatti after this fight, they'll probably give him a couple more washed up vets..
