If Cotto is moving backwards, those counters aren't really going to have their full effect.

The bolded is a notion I don't agree with.

I see so many people say that Cotto is only effective going forward and I disagree.

Cotto is at his best when he's boxing...not boxing off his back foot, but boxing.

Think about how he fought against Mosley...and even Gomez. He wasn't bullying Gomez, but he was boxing him laterally with sharp, accurate punches.

To me, that's the style that is Cotto is most effective employing. When he's bullying he gets reckless and he doesn't have the punch resistance anymore to do that.
