win a worthless title and everybody knows your name but didn't and would never call your name without it. Good for K9 I hear he's facing Ronald Hearns.Undefeated former amateur world champion Erislandy Lara (12-0, 7 KOs) has made the most of the opportunity since escaping his homeland of Cuba. I'm from LA and always find it comical when cities like Monroe, Shreveport, Ruston etc. use the word "bayou" in a promotional event. Neither here nor there but everyone knows that bayous come from the 7 parishes that make up Acadiana which is well below Alexandria. Anything north of Alexandria we simply call "Arkansas" and those are tributaries up there, not bayous
But on a serious note, I would love for Louisiana to try and parlay the success they'll have in Monroe on the 18th and see if ESPN2 could make this state as its exclusive territory for Wed. Night Fights. Governor Jindal cleaned house when he was elected and nominated a new slate of board members for the LA Boxing & Wrestling Commission with a renewed vision for the sweet science. Great success so far but it's been largely driven by mixed cards with 5 boxing matches and 4 MMA bouts on the same night, driving in the young, 20 somethings who come in masses to watch the latter. But LA has an ace in the hole with New Orleans being the venue back in the 70's and early 80's for the Ali's and Ray Leonard's (famous 'No Mas' fight etc). And the beauty about Wednesday is that even with college and NFL football approaching, Wednesdays are generally a dead day for the pigskin. Could be an unbelievable niche that I believe Philly (Blue Horizon) had but never committed to on a monthly basis.
Great to hear that Erislandy will be headlining; bright future from someone I place right up there with Gamboa and Rigondeaux as the Cuban Invasion three-headed monster.Comment
