PRESS RELEASE: Junior middleweight Deandre “Bull” Latimore still hasn’t heard back on his offer to fight Alfredo “Perro” Angulo. Reportedly, Angulo has been offered a bout with current world middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. Latimore seemed stunned that a bout like that was even being considered.
“Angulo has done nothing to show that he belongs in the same ring with Martinez . If they fought a twelve rounder, Martinez would win 13-0. They’ve built up Angulo like he’s some sort of beast but he’s done nothing to lend any credibility to that,” said Latimore.
“The bottom line is that a fight between Angulo and I would be an all-action bout. We’re both young, aggressive fighters, it’s the perfect fight for HBO to put on one of their Boxing After Dark card. Then the winner gets a bigger fight.”
“That’s how it should be done and it works best for the fans, instead of just anointing some dude as the next big thing like they are with Angulo.”
The 24 year-old Latimore improved to 21-3 with 17 KOs by stopping Darien Ford in the third round on July 24th in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri. [Editor's note: Ford is now 11-20].
Angulo’s record stands at 19-1-0 with sixteen stoppages. He is coming off a first round knockout of former junior middleweight titlist Joachim Alcine on July 17th.
Latimore is promoted by Steve Smith’s Rumble Time Promotions and DiBella Entertainment. Said Smith, “When we first mentioned a fight between Latimore and Angulo last week, the media and fans loved the idea. Now it’s just up to Angulo to either except a true challenge or continue to pad his record with guys who don’t belong in the ring with him.”
