    Has MMA/UFC hurt Boxing?

Do you think in your opinion MMA/UFC have hurt boxing? There is a lot of talk about boxing dieing and that it will go away, what do you think of the future of the sport? I personally think boxing promoters have killed boxing and that MMA/UFC had nothing to do with it. I also think boxing will remain a niche sport as long as it is on HBO and HBO PPV, it really needs to get big fights back on national television for the masses to watch mega fights for free.

    No boxing hurt itself.

Sooner or later we're going to be seeing MMA fights on HBO. Only a matter of time.

UFC shows competitive fights for free.
Also, let's face it. Dana has great cards. UFC 117 was STACKED.

If Dana had a say in boxing, we would've seen a Floyd v. Manny trilogy already.

Boxing's politics have caught up to them. Too many promoters, too many sanctioning bodies, too many commissions, too much bull****.

It's absolutely inexcusable that fans who ARE willing to pay $79.99 for a Floyd/Manny fight haven't been given that option.

There's not 1 legitimate, substantial, logical excuse for not seeing this ****ing fight already. Instead, NSB posters repeatedly spew racist and derogatory insults back and forth non stop at each other.

And people wonder why boxing is dying.

I think that as time goes on and these MMA stars age, they are going to be showing signs that the sport is not good at all. Blows such as kicks, punches in 6oz gloves and elbows cannot be good for your brain! They will all turn out worse than Ali.

I think boxing is still worse.

In MMA, you can lose to a submission and not take significant head shots the entire fight.

But in boxing, there's only two targets...the head and the body. And it's much harder to get a knockout from a body blow....so most fighters aim up.

Besides, in MMA, once there's a big knockdown, there's no more fight. The fighter is allowed to mount the opponent, and if said opponent isn't defending himself properly, the fight is over.

In boxing, you're allowed to get back up, only to get knocked down again.

Another thing, MMA fighters have shorter careers. They also get better endorsements, so they don't have to fight as much.

Overall I think MMA fighters take LESS punishment than boxers throughout their careers.

I have been thinking this also because no one really knows the repercussions of that sport and everyone knows the repercussions of the sport of boxing because it has been an established sport for over 200 years.

I also believe it is going to lose a lot of its luster in the next few years.

They have shorter careers? It all depends on the individual themselves and how their career goes. Also in MMA you can get kneed, elbowed, slammed, and dropped on your head. I still think boxing is more dangerous for head trauma but the amount of punishment MMA takes on the athletes body is a million times more in MMA.

agreed. On the body, yes. On the head, nobody knows yet but I suspect it would be less.

In MMA fights there are broken ribs, broken jaws, dislocations, torn ligaments, etc.

                    man...brutal on the body.
