Well i live in NYC and only once have i walked into a bar to watch a boxing PPV, for the bar not to be showing it. Then i told them to turn on the fight and they ordered it.
where in the city do you go? I only know one bar that shows the fights consistently, and then it's only for ppvs and there's always a cover.

I think the main reasons places don't show is some combination of hbo charging huge fees, boxing being a dead sport, the big fights usually being on otherwise busy saturday nights in about half the country, and having to then deal with the mafia coming around for their cut.

Pretty much true, except boxing is flat as far as growth and soccer is gaining popularity I believe.

Directv has 3 channels devoted to soccer 24/7. I'd love to see one boxing channel that was offered 24/7...

The difference between UFC and Boxing is due to several reasons

          1) Price: UFC fights are cheaper than boxing. Joe Hand is the field sales agent and he gets better pricing for MMA than for boxing. A UFC fight may be $1500 vs $2200 for a boxing event

          2) Marketing Support: UFC is a company. One unified company. Boxing consists of an assortment of competing companies. When you go to a bar to watch a UFC match, you notice display materials, posters, trinkets, baby-T's, etc. Boxing promoters have not provided this additional support and trade spending.

          3) Demographics: UFC events are younger, more mixed, with more women. When you go to a UFC bar, that IS the event. For a male-dominated boxing crowd, the place clears out as soon as the fight ends. The UFC crowd spends more, and the liquor companies do tie-ins.

,,,,and there are a few more reasons....
Margin: When UFC sells a million PPV's, the "name" fighter may make $500K for that fight. For boxing, you have guys making $10 million purses for a million PPV buys.

That effectively makes a MMA event much more profitable because their "labor" or COGS is so much lower.

For this to be boxing scene there sure are a lot of m-fers that are hating on here. I will love boxing no matter what no matter how popular it is. If your not a hard core fan or all you are going to do is hate, then why are you on here?

Well maybe HBO needs to change their thinking on PPV events for bars and sports bars.

I never even brought up cost the bars pay for ppv's..... only that the most I have payed was a 5 dollar cover charge.

What the hell are you talking about and how did you get that from my simple ass statement?

Some of you guys got serious issues...smh
