I was just reading an article about the fight most likely ending up in Dallas and the author brought up some interesting facts that I think will go a long way towards making this fight a big success financially.
1) HBO is producing this one with the full 24/7 treatment.
2) 60 Minutes is doing a special story on Pacquiao
3) Arum (who budgeted Cowboys Stadium for 30-40K people) is expecting 70K.
No program hypes up a major sporting event like 24/7 in my opinion. Having a 24/7 and very interesting material (Pac's political career, Marg's controversy, Cowboys stadium, etc) will add a few hundred thousand customers that may not have purchased the card earlier. And a very underrated addition- Margarito being the 'villain' because of his shady recent history. Everyone Pac has faced he's shown respect for and there was no trash-talking. If I were HBO and Top Rank, I would push for the heel angle and do the classic good guy vs bady guy bit that sells BIG (see Mayweather, Floyd). 60 minutes will introduce Pacquiao to the masses that may not know much about or what he's all about, adding new fans and PPV customers. Dallas and Pacquiao were the draw for the Clottey match, now add the excitement of 70K fans and a name brand like Margs...
I'm predicting at least 1 million buys, I wouldn't be surprised if it sold as well as Pacquiao-Cotto.
