Excluding Floyd of course.
Exclude the names Pacquiao and Mayweather and riddle me this, fight fans.
Other than Floyd and Manny and maybe oldie Shane Mosley, who's the best ticketseller in Amercian boxing?
Hint, hint, hint, he's not from the USA.
He's from Mexico and he is Manny Pacquaio's old rival, Juan Manuel Marquez.
Say what you will about the nearly age 37 counterpuncher but he can still put more posteriors in the (paid) seats in Las Vegas than any other American fighter you or I can name.
While the buzz has it that Marquez's second bout against Houstonian Juan Diaz did OK on pay per view TV, I'd have to say the live gate was not awful.
The final preliminary report looks like an $899,750 gate, with 6,220 tickets sold.
How much do you want to bet that 80 percent or more of those forking over money for a seat in midsummer, in the midst of a continuing brutal recession, came to see the Mexican national?
Again, this in the broiling, 120 degrees Fahrenheit Vegas heat with no Mexican holiday as a lure.
Diaz has sold lots of tickets in his hometown but the luster is off the rose after two losses to Diaz and two dismal efforts against Paulie Malignaggi.

A pessimist would say, well the MGM Grand Garden Arena could have fit in almost 18,0000 for the July 31 bout.
Me, I take the optimist's position and say not that the venue was two thirds empty but rather that it was one third full.
I think Golden Boy, instead of throwing Juan Ma to the wolves in a bout against too young, too tall Amir Khan, should preserve and protect their valuable asset.
Juan Ma remains a “brand name” and a good one in boxing and GBP should try to milk his popularity as long as it can.
Saul “Canela” Alvarez, even with a victory over my old friend Carlos “Tata” Baldomir, isn't ready to assume the mantle yet.
Even though he probably never fights Pacman again, Marquez is still induces fans to reach into their pockets.

and he did that without JMM-Diaz not really being that great of a match
