It was Avalos' first time in against a crafty fighter, he should take this loss as a learning experience.

Martin countered him all night, especially Avalos' "jab".

i agree with this. Rigondeaux is another level of fighter.

sorta like the difference between Mayweather and Yuri foreman. both great boxers but Mayweather is just another species.

Yuri Foreman is not a great boxer.

A shot Miguel Cotto easily beat him.

He didn't look JMM-esque to me. If anything, he reminded me more of a 135LB Mayweather the way he would deflect and roll with the punches and counter off of those defensive positions.

avalos looked lost in that fight. he was a sucker for counterpunches. he was very predictable as martin toyed with him on a lot of occassions. avalos was looking to land his big punches all night but it never came as martin's defense is solid.

But i do agree his skills were sharp, its just the not making weight thing kills it for me
Martin's never fought at 118 before. Yeah it sucks he didn't make weight, but he probably struggled to get down to 120. His last fight he weighed in at 127.5 less than 2 months ago.

Martin reminded me of Sergio Martinez. Dude was pretty slick with those counters.

And the judge that scored the fight in Avalos' favor....just wow...

yeah 98-94 had me scratching my head aswell

good performance by martin but avalos looked like the worst fighter i have seen with a 20-0 record i mean where was all the power that was talked about before the fight?
to think he chose to work with his dad instead of eddie mustapha i guess that's why he got taken to school he really needs a new trainer his dad wasn't giving him any worthwhile advice or strategy at all

good performance by martin his lack of power will be his downfall against a boxer puncher though
