    The Boxing Art of Defense

No, this isn't another topic about who were the greatest defensive fighters ever. I wanted to know what was the general consensus for this site on the topic of defense.

Sometimes people may or may not appreciate defense the way they should. In my opinion, defense is one of the most important aspects in Boxing, because bottom line it helps you last longer in the sport and win fights. It is also in fact one of the main judging criteria.

So what is your opinion on defense, and how important is it to you?

In boxing the guy who is hit less over the course of 12 rounds usually wins.

Defensive IMO is the most important part of boxing. If i were a boxer I would be a defensive minded fighter. You prolong your career and make things easier on yourself in the ring.

90+% of the people on this site don't care about defense. To them its all about going to war and excitment. Technical skills such as defense is considered boring.

Read my sig and you will get what I mean.

          That's not true.

What is the purpose of watching any sport, then? I want to know your response.

You know that's an interesting sig tredh. I always said I preferred watching the skills people were taught in the ring rather than a slugfest that you can watch at your local bar.

I'd like to see more of the site's opinion on defense though. Feel free to chime in and give your say.

I like fighters who show good defensive skills but in attacking mind, guys like mike mccaclum and mike tyson who are in punching range but bob and weave to evade shots

              thats art

Whats not true about what I said? All you have to do is read the majority of the comments posted on this site when it comes to technical boxers. People have many different reasons as to why they watch a sport.

defense can be shown in many different ways. it doesnt have to be textbook defense. as long as one fighter benefits from his own kind of defense, either be headmovement, shoulder roll, slipping, fast footwork, who's to say he's not good on defense?

but pure defense is boring and wont win you fights alone. i like the tyson and ali defense. both w/ diff kind of defense but both willing to take risks also of getting hit to put on a solid offense.
