vs. Sergio Martinez
Even before Martinez fought Williams, I thought Martinez was going to be a problem for Williams. I had watched Martinez fight Russell Jordan (a very tall, Williams body style fighter, although not nearly as active), and Martinez's strategy was to time Jordan, and jump in with combinations. It was fairly similar to the way Quintana fought Williams the first time.
I felt like Williams won more rounds against Martinez, but Martinez ultimately got the better of the fight, meaning that Williams was the winner because boxing's scoring system does not always produce a result that was indicative of who actually did more damage, and hurt the opponent more.
I think Williams might perform better in the rematch against Martinez, and I'm not sure how many adjustments Martinez can make to his game plan. His main problem was that he was getting hit with long range punches (which will probably continue to be the case because of the length of Williams, and Martinez's tendency to try to slip punches with head movement along), and Martinez's stamina is what let Williams win a bunch of rounds. At his age, I'm not sure how much stamina Martinez can gain going into the rematch.
However, this fight should be just as entertaining and good as the original was.
vs. Sergiy Dzinziruk
Judging by my avatar, I assume some people think I'm going to say that Dzinziruk is going to beat Williams. I think Dzinziruk is as skilled as they come, and probably one of the top five best techinicians in the sport.
However, I think Williams wins this fight pretty clearly. Dzinziruk is a rarity in the sport that he doesn't move forward or backward for the most part. He stands in front of you, and picks you apart with his jab. Unfortunately for Dzinziruk, he is going to be standing in front of a guy who will be a giant compared to him, and the arms of Paul Williams will be significantly longer than Dzinziruk's.
Dzinziruk won't be able to employ the movement that gave Quintana and Martinez so much success against Williams. In addition, while he is waiting to get his jab off, he will be getting hit with long range punches, which will just keep coming.
