I see the point guys on here are trying to make but I think if you're fighting for a world title...against a paper champ or not....you're fighting amongst the world's best and therefore not protected.

yes it is, besides the fight everybody want the most...the others are all world champions to and all fight pretty much safe fights. Fights that the other man may have a chance but only a carnival games chance. Honestly, these days most the champions are protected and the belts allow them to pick and choose what fights to take or in the current state not take.

I guess your are referring to Manny and the real question is he isn't being protected from anyone at 140-147 or 154. Martinez and Williams are Middleweights and no reasonable person expects Manny to face either of those guys. Just don't let the disillusion fans get to you as their disses are actually compliments (e.g. expecting a guy who fought at 130 two years ago to face the Ring/Lineal champ at MW as his next opponent).

Actually i made this thread in reference to a Khan thread and realized the word "protected" is thrown around rather loosely in these forums to apply to just about anyone.

          Damn..my bad homie..

Khan is not protected and I agree with what you are saying. People throw words like "Shot", "Protected", "overrated" and other b.s around way too loosely...I agree with you 100%. If you want to know my true opinion of what is going on with Khan let me know and I'll break it down.

Well it's not just about Khan. Im just thinking how is it even possible to be a world champion and still be "protected".

I've seen some folks say that Juanma is protected because he wont fight caballero even though he has a better resume than just about any other world champion within 2 weight divisions.

Okay I see what you are saying. It's not being protected and it think it boils down to most posters on this board not understanding how fights are chosen. For example is pretty apparent that Adamek will face the Klitschko's. I'm sure he has been offered a fight but he chose not to take it at this time as he needs work against taller fighters. This is the reason he is taking on Grant and will more than like fight Dimentriko(sp) next to get use to taller, ranger guys.

With Khan he isn't ducking Maidana per say, and I feel Freddie is buy some time to work on some defensive flaws in Amir's game (him being wide open for a lunging hook when he pulls back) so when he does fight Maidana he is at his absolute best.

With Juanma.....they already offered Caba a career payday and Celestino needs to realize you can't call out guys and then expect 50-50.

Not to be long winded with my post...I just think there is a lot more to it than most realize and it's easy to say "a guy is ducking" or a "guy is over protected" instead of understanding what is really going on. Not only that you got a lot of ignorate posters who love to flame and post stuff like that so I would just ignore those type of individuals.

Juanma has taken some risk but Khan, no. Roach will protect him as long as possible because its smart. He would look like a butt nekked baby against top ww or Jww right now. As for Adamek, he goes in face first. I dont think he has anything to fear and hell I like him.

IMHO, Chavez Jr. is a protected fighter. (as compared to others who have a similar number of fights)

So what would you say about someone like Julio Cesar Chavez Sr??? Guy has faced some of the absolute best boxing history has had to offer but had already had a good long 60-70+fight career against mediocre competition before taking on his 1st real world class challenge.
