    Hopkins Speaks

    Jermain Taylor:

    "I'll do better next time"

    "I got winded"

    "I headhunted too much"

"I thought I was fast enough to avoid his punches, but I wasn't"

"I'm going back to the drawing board"

"I can't wait for the rematch"

"I learned you need patience to win a fight"

"I wasted a lot of energy"

"In the rematch you'll see a different fighter"

"I should have cut the ring off, I was chasing him too much"

"I should have hit the body or something"

"I thought, what am I doing, I'm losing this"

"It didn't play out how I envisioned it"

"He's a smart fighter, but in the rematch I got a plan for that"

"I didn't know what was going on"

Cut the excuses Jermain, you got your ass kicked plain and simple.

ALthough he won the fight; by reading his comments you'd swear that he lost the fight(i thought he did, but o well). Taylor knows he lost it thats why he's talking down on his performance and how "he'll do better next time"

      Hopkins Speaks

"I am not going to start complaining or crying over spilled milk all night long. I am not mad because I know in my heart that I won the fight. I am a forty year old man who was supposed to get whipped by this young lion. All I heard was 'young, strong and speed.' I proved that I matched him in every aspect. I think I outfoxed him, out-punched him and in most cases I out-speeded him."

"You be the judge. There will be a replay next week, July 23, and then you can go back and watch the fight again and decide for yourself. I dominated the fight from the fifth round on. I had him out on his feet in, what, the sixth round? I had him hurt and almost down on many occasion in the fight."

"I see that Duane Ford gave Jermain Taylor the twelfth round. How is that even possible? Bernard Hopkins dominated Jermain Taylor in the twelfth round. IF he would have scored it properly, it would have been a draw. But even then, I know I won the fight."

"He never hurt me. I was off-balance a few times but hurt? Never. I hurt him, though. Look at his face. I know I am not the best looking guy out there but he is all beat up. I don't have no scratches on me. I know I don't look like Denzel Washington, but he was cut, he was bleeding all over the place and his face was lumped up. How can anybody think that this guy won the fight?"

"I made a few mistakes out there that I will capitalize on in the rematch but I exploited a lot of things about Jermain Taylor. There will be a rematch and next time I will make sure to knock him out or at least make sure someone like Duane Ford, who gave him the last round, is not the judge."

"I proved a lot of things tonight. I did not turn old like all of you thought and I out-worked this young lion. I won't cry over spilled milk because I feel good. Did you see his body language after the fight? I went over to his corner to console him. Jermain said, 'You are the champ. Good fight. You are the champ, man.' Lou DiBella said, 'Bernard good fight. You are still the man.' They said this with their heads hung low. What does that tell you? I went and said to him, 'Hey, I guess country boys can fight,' to congratulate him for a brave fight but I went there to console him. His head was low and his body language told everybody that he felt he lost."

"Hopefully I can get two more fights before I retire. I will not go against my promise to my mom but I want two more. Jermain Taylor will be one of them. I have no animosity towards Jermain whatsoever, but in boxing it's good to have rivalries. There was Holyfield/Bowe and Ali/Frazier. Now we can maybe have Bernard Hopkins/Jermain Taylor."

Bernard Hopkins went back to his corner, raising his arms and smiling. He knew he won the fight. Jermain Taylor went back to his corner, head down and he looked dissapointed. He knew he lost the fight. Bernard is going to destroy him next time, no matter what Taylor swears he is going to do to be better.

I wonder if this loss to Jermain Taylor eliminates Bernard's chances of going for the light-heavyweight strap? Or do you think B-Hop will go for the light-heavyweight strap instead of going for Roy Jones?

Who knows. I guess it depends on the outcome of the rematch.

He does clearly say he's only fighting twice more, just like he promised his mother before she passed. He said he wouldn't fight past his 41st Birthday.

That leaves one last fight after the Taylor rematch.

This isn't too bad for Bernard any way you look at it.

Even if you had him losing (I thought he won), he was still competitive enough this doesn't really go agaisnt him, and the rematch will be another nice payday for him.

You know what man, don't be a ****.

There's a LOT of people, both fans, media and fighters, who thought Hopkins won.

Have a take, state your opinion, but don't act like your take on a fight that close is factual and gospel.

I had it 115-113 for Hopkins.

Very true, personally I would like to see him go after Roy Jones. Once he beats Jermain in the rematch, he'll then go on to beat Roy Jones (hopefully) and get his redemption on both his major losses.
