My thoughts are that Hopkins would leave a bigger legacy if he has a hard fought trilogy with taylor. Maybe Hopkins wins the next fight as close as taylor won this one; then in his final fight he knocks out Taylor and retires. Every great fighter should have at least one " competitive rival", and a trilogy with taylor would be just that.

The loss is better for hopkins legacy if....

I think this would probably be in B-Hop's best interest too. Although, I've said that I think he should move on to the light-heavyweight division just to prove people that he can still hang even though he is 41. I think B-Hop's last two fights should be wins against Jermain Taylor. Hopefully Jermain is smart and makes B-Hop sign a rematch clause like B-Hop did to him so this can be a possibility.

not sure if it would be a trilogy...but it is good if Hopkins wins the rematch...
the loss makes him human and showing he can come back from the loss is great...especially if the first fight was a BIT controversial and he still showed that he could have won the fight...
most great fighters have lost...it is not like "oh he is not great because he lost"...Hagler has lost to a welterweight...he is still great...Ali lost to Frazier...then beat him twice later...and is great...
so it is not like Hopkins can never be great because of a loss...wasn't like he was brutally KOed in his prime or anything...
a rematch win will help his legacy and also help Taylor's career a bit...assuming Taylor goes on to dominate...he can ALWAYS walk away saying he breat Hopkins at a time where Hopkins wasn't really "looking" old...then if Hopkins wins a rematch he can say he beat a young, strong, in his prime MW Champ in a rematch of a fight he possibly should/could have won...
and to top it all off...Hopkins would be a "2 Time Undisputed Middleweight Champion"
