    rematch oct 1

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya said last night that HBO is holding October 1 for a rematch between new undisputed middleweight champion Jermain Taylor and former champ Bernard Hopkins.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Both fighters claimed victory after the fight. "I won the fight early, and got winded towards the end," admitted Taylor. Hopkins disagreed saying "From the fifth or sixth round on, I dominated the fight. I had him hurt twice. The only thing I didn't do was knock him out." Taylor denied that he was hurt. "He never hurt me," Taylor stated. "He got some good shots in, but he never hurt me. I got winded in the later rounds, but for the rematch I will try harder."
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The card of ringside judge Duane Ford awarded Taylor round twelve, a round the other two judges, and most at ringside, gave to Hopkins. Had Ford been in agreement, his card would have been even and Hopkins would have retained his title with a draw.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An emotional Lou DiBella, Taylor's promoter, commented, "I beat him in court and Jermain beat him in the ring. It closes an ugly chapter in my life."

If Hopkins gets in his chest he could easily beat Taylor. Taylor couldn't handle Hopkins too well in close. If they fight like they did last night, Hopkins will turn it up earlier and beat him convincingly.

Too bad it has to be the week before Corrales-Castillo 2. I will probably only be able to get one of them, and I am definately going to go with Chico and Castillo.

I believe that was the date they were talking about having Jones vs. Hopkins II.

We need to hurry up and have the rematch. I have a feeling the debate over who won is going to continue until the rematch happens. The boxing world is in disarray.

                hmm

Hopkins is not good enough anymore to sustain his attack like he did in rounds 9-12 in the first fight. Taylor won too many early rounds with his physical presence, flurries, and Hopkins' general inactivity. If Hopkins could have brought the heat from early on in the fight, he would have. Hopkins wouldn't make a mistake like that. The simple truth is, while Hopkins is still very good, he is no longer great.

Taylor will win the rematch. Hopkins will just be that much older.

Heck yes they need to hurrry up with the rematch! Are you kidding me 3 months from now? I can see both of these guys going into the gyms starting next week... I hope there's alot more trash talking... Boxing is just so much better when the two guys dont like each other.

Too bad Jermain Taylor will be the nicest Champion of all time. He doesn't talk trash, he always gives the other guy the respect.

It's almost like when Hartwell hit Tiki Barber and told him "Jesus loves you"
