Isnt it funny how people diss GBP matchmaking?

    first ortiz now jacobs

its like some people on this board want to see some undefeated novelty fighter who gets protected and never lives up to his potential

first of all jacobs wasnt in with a guy with more experience, on paper he had just as much a chance of beatin pirog as pirog had of beating jacobs, its just that the jacobs has been promoted like he's the next big thing at 160 and all of a sudden people are disappointed?

ortiz enjoyed even more hype and had the tools to beat maidana, nobody heard of maidana and counted him out. the fact of the matter is these fighters are being tested by other legit fighters and people are complaining about it. do people really wanna see another andre berto or another amir khan? that doesnt make any sense

gbp hasnt grown to be the most admirable company but dont blame them for making fights with prospects actually fighting other fighters that could beat them. neither maidana or pirog have turned out to be bums

I agree but when it comes to bringing along talent and turning prospects into stars Top Rank holds that title definitively.

You see marketing talent is a due process and if you match them in competition to fast you lose your invested golden egg.

For example, do you remember when Cotto beat Torres at 140?

At that time he was still considered prospect status, do you think despise how many people don't like Kermit it would have been a good idea for Top Rank to match Cotto up with Cintron so soon after a war fight with Torres?

The point is promotional companies want to milk their investments for what they are worth whether long or short term.

    Careful match-making enables proper marketability.

If the trainer feels there ready for a world title shot and they get exposed its the trainers fault.

GBP did a good job providing him with the opportunity to succeed not their fualt hes not good enough.

I kind of like GBP's style of not mollycoddling their stars, but maybe they could take it a little easier with the youngsters. Monitor the kids' progression more closely and pay more mind to scouting out potential opponents.

Maybe they just aren't as good at spotting talent as Top Rank as well?

My point precisely, they need to preserve their talent so that they can graduate them from prospect status to contender status and then to stardom.

If you rush your youngsters too soon you are just setting them up to fail prematurely.

          Top Rank >>> GBP.

Me too, Juarez strangely enough always gets title shots over other legitimate contenders and always falls short only to get another title shot in the next coming GBP PPV event...
